TOURISM GROWS IN 2015 POSITIVELY

The tourism sector this year has shown a positive growth in both the number of visitors as currency. In the first quarter, January to April, 772.692 tourists entered the Heart of the Mayan World, according to market research statistics from the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism INGUAT.

The number of visitors amounts to a 3.7 percent increase over the same period in 2014, when it received 744.890 tourists. With respect to income, currencies reached US $ 576.7 million equivalent to 3.6 percent dollars, that is $ 20 billion more than the previous year.

April

After January, April is the month that has represented more visitors during April 2015 recorded the arrival of 194.076 foreign tourists, 6.2 percent more than in the same month of 2014, equivalent to more than 11,357 tourists.

With regard to foreign exchange generated, the fourth month represented a growth in the currencies of 6.5 percent over last year, reaching US $ 144 million. In 2014 was US $ 135.7 million dollars.

The main markets, as the number of arrivals to the country, are El Salvador, United States, Honduras, Mexico, Canada, Nicaragua, United States, Costa Rica, Colombia and Germany.

For other sectors, tourism represents one of the largest income compared with some export products such as coffee, sugar and bananas.
